Classification: Query
Surnames: Hirschberger Harshbarger Hershberger Funk Borcker Boraker Gander Blosser Lyon
I am descended in the Christian Hirschberger line although our spelling is now Harshbarger.

Printed with permission from our family lineage book "From Christian-I-To-Me" by Ralph and Wilma Harshbarger. Published 1983: "In the book "A Roster of Revolutionary Ancestors of the Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution" the following article appears on page 302.

"Hirschberger, Christian, b. before 1756, Germany, d. before June 1805, Shenandoah Co., Va., n. prior 1776, prob. Caroline (Funk) d. prior 1805. SERVICE: Hirschberger, Christian, Patriot, rendered aid to the Military forces in furnishing supplies. (See Public Service Claims Department, Shenandoah County court, under date of 29 August 1782). CHILDREN: Christian (2nd), b. 29 August 1776, m. Susan Borcker, 10 Jan. 1803; Barbara; Daniel; Abraham; Henry; Ann,m. 28 May 1805 George Gander; Maria, m. 14 Nov. 1793 John Maggot; Elizabeth, m. 17 May 1795 Tobias Blosser; Susanna. DESCENDMIE: Lyon, Ruby (Mrs. Edwin), No. 504 593".

The above article is included to show who Christian Hirschberger married. The author has searched in several counties in Pennsylvania and Virginia and could find no proof of his marriage.

In "Shenandoah County Virginia Marriage Bonds, 1772-1850" complied by Bernice M. Ashby, published Virginia Book Go., Berryville, Virginia 1967, the marriage bond or permission for Elizabeth Hershberger to Tobias Blosser was given by Christian and Caroline Hershberger.

On the 17th day of September 1757 Christian Hirschberger leased 370 acres of land in Frederick County, Colony of Virginia from Lodowick Celsar and his wife Barbara Celzar for the sum of five shillings, current money of the Colony of Virginia....

These are the children and their marriages of Christian Hershberger I and his wife Caroline. All of these marriages are recorded in Shen-andoah County, Virginia or in the State Archives, Richmond, Virginia. Barbara m. 28 June 1785 John Lionbarger; Daniel m. 9 December 1794 Barbara Blosser; Abrahan (two marriages are listed and when Christian's Estate was settled, Abraham was listed with his wife Catharine, I have no proof which Catharine is right) m. 25 August 1791 Catharine Trickler and m. 22 December 1800 Catharine Rinehart; Henry m. 31 October 1788 Elisabeth Rouser; Anna m. 28 May 1805 George Gander; Maria Mary m. 14 November 1793 John Maggast or Maggart; Elisabeth n. 17 May 1795 Tobias Blosser; Susanna m. 25 August 1805 Michael Summers; Christian II m. 10 July 1803 Susanna Burocker." -end excerpt-

This book as lots and lots of information - Ralph and Wilma spent many, many years researching this information. They were researching three Harshbarger brothers and one sister that settled in Piatt-Douglas-Champaign County areas of Illinois. This book deals with the children of Christian II and Susanna Boraker Harshbarger, those being Michael, Barbara, Isaac, Samuel, Daniel and Christopher. Samuel is my g-g-g-g-g-grandfather. The book itself is out of print and the final copies were sold several years ago. There is currently no plans to reprint.

Hope this helps with some of the tangle,
