I've just reviewed your information again and I'm afraid I don't think we are descended from the same Adlai Hardin. Yours is Adlai D Hardin, and mine is Adlai H Hardin, born 1843 or 1845 in North Caroline and died in 1925 in Arkansas. He was the son of Samuel Hardin and the brother of Melver.

I read that your Adlai D was the son of a William and died in 1890. Also, yours married a Sarah Wooten and mine married a Cordelia Ophelia Evalina Jones.

It is remarkable that there were two Adlai's born in NC around the same time, but from the middle names and death dates they definitely aren't the same people.

However, this got me thinking that it would be interesting to know who Adlai D was related to, ie, could he possibly have had a brother named Samuel? There's a 40 year gap in age between Adlai D and Adlai H, and as the Adlai name keeps appearing in my family, I think there's a good possibility Samuel might have been your Adlai D's brother or cousin. Just a guess. Do you know if William Hardin and Margaret Nichols had any other children?
