Thanks for your message. My husband's grandfather Patrick John, was baptised at St Raphael's in Greenpoint in 1892. They did not show a marriage record for Luke Halpin and Julia O'Neill, nor did any of the Catholic churches in Manhattan that they might have attended. So I wonder where they might have married. There is more to the mystery. Sometime after 1900, when both parents died in Ireland, Luke's brother, John arrived in New York. Don't know what became of him. Another mystery relation, James Halpin (son of Patrick Halpin and Anna Barnes) bought the cemetery plot in St John's cemetery for Luke's wife Julia. Luke and Julia's daughter Elaine/Ellen/Helen married a Mulcahy by 1922. They had a 2 yr old daughter who drowned in a washtub who was buried with grandmother Julia in 1924. I have also found a connection between my Halpin and Halpin in Rhode Island, though I am not entirely sure what that connection is. Thanks again for your help, and do let me know if any of the persons I have mentioned sound familiar. You can email me direct at
