James and William -the decorators-.were my grandmother's brothers .They were both councillors (see Kelly's Directory) and aldermen in Abergavenny. My grandmother was Mary Ann Gwatkin (1870-1960) -though she is not listed with the rest of her family in the 1881 Census
I too am very interested in any further information about the family and have more information to pass on.

James Gwatkin is my great-grandfather. James' and Mary's parents were Thomas and Ann (nee Saunders), they had I believe 11 children in total.

Your grandmother is listed in the 1881 census with her brother Benjamin at their uncles house (James Saunders) in Trevethin, Monmouth (RG11/5250/62)

I have more information on the Gwatkin family in Abergavenny. You can contact me at simon.howie@lineone.net

Sian,
I would like to learn more about your grandmother, Mary Ann GWATKIN of Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, Wales. Who did she marry? Did she have any children? Where did she live? Etc.

From another researcher I have learned about the parents of Thomas GWATKIN, Mary Ann's father. After the death of her father, Mary Ann's mother married a second time. Are you interested in the details or do you already have them?

My tie to the family is Mary Ann's brother, Alfred GWATKIN who married Elizabeth Ann MEREDITH in Abergavenny in 1894. I do have details on ancestors, siblings, and children of Elizabeth if you are interested. I was saddened to see how many of the two families died of tuberculosis and of Gwatkin brothers who may have become insane because of the type of work they did.

I have been out of touch for some time and have found your old message. I have not heard from Lynda Fase for years.
Is your Susan Gwatkin the eldest of John and Susan Gwatkin,s of Bradley Hill family? I am unable to find any trace of them in 1861 census.it would be the only census likely to list the whole family. I have marriage and birth certs which you mentioned, Son Albert Amos is down as Female
Have you got any further in the intervening years?
Julia Blanch registered Blanche was my grandmother. I have a photo of the sisters would you recognise Susan? Kind regards Pat Hoggard
