I just can't leave well enough alone....it just occurred to me that Rop might actually be Ross. The double "s" is sometimes written with a weird p. For instance, when the census takers wrote "Mass" it looks like "Map". Just a thought. That makes this more mysterious, though. Was Ross her married name, then? Why would she take that name again after her husband died? The plot thickens.
