Re Nathaniel Fesler: you might want to search the names of the hundreds or thousands of US soldiers who died in a steamship explosion on the Mississippi while returning from the Civil War. sorry, I can't recall exact name of the ship, but those who know Civil War history are very familiar with the incident, and I believe there are lists of names of those who died.
