Surnames: EWART, Kirkpatrick
My Ewart's also came from Northern Ireland around 1790, from what can be determined. My first know ancestor was James Ewart who settled in Washington Co. PA. I am a descendant of his son David. David married and moved with his family on a flatboat down the Ohio River to Butler Co. OH. The census lists his birthplace as Ireland. I also believe the family was Protestant and during the British movement to run Catholics out of Ireland, particuarly Northern Ireland. My line was David born Ireland in 1785 and died in 1830 near Brookville, IN. At some point in time his family moved again to Illinois. After David in my line is son William who married 3 times. My great grandfather was Thomas Kirkpatrick Ewart (son of second wife Sarah Kirkpatrick) who married Allie Stevenson Thomas and Allie moved down the Mississippi River settlling in Helena, Arkansas about 60 miles down river from Memphis, TN. My grandfather, son of these two was born in Greenup,IL. His name was Everett Carl Ewart. I have never been able to determine exactly when they arrived. I think James, the immigrant, was later in Green Co., PA, perhaps due to a split in Washington Co., PA. I have also not found his date or place of death. Would be really great to connect these families.
