I am descended from a long line of Monroe County VA (WV) Dunns. My grandmother was a Dunn, daughter of Rev. Carl Dunn, son of Charles Alexander Dunn and Mary Francis Broyles Dunn, son of Joseph Alexander Dunn and Elizabeth Dillon, Joseph Alexander Dunn is the son of Thomas Dunn. Thomas' parentage is unknown. He is not the son of the more famous John Dunn Sr. Revolutionary War soldier and his wife Mary Peters Dunn as you will sometimes see quite often. Thomas Dunn was born sometime between 1776-1784. John Dunn Sr. marries Mary Peters in Rockingham County, VA in 1787. I do, however, think that Thomas Dunn is related to John Dunn Sr. John Dunn Sr. and Mary Peters have three confirmed children who lived to adulthood: Catherine Dunn (Hale), James C. Dunn m. Nancy Robinson and his youngest John Dunn Jr. who marries Agnes Thompson.
Documented marriages of Thomas Dunn in Monroe County marriage records include only two: Sally Dunn in 1804 and Polly Robinson in 1812. There is no documented proof of a marriage between Thomas Dunn and Molley "Mary" Peters as you will sometimes see in books There is no proof of such a marriage in either Monroe County or any of the other surrounding counties.
I really want to find out who Thomas' wife or wives were and who then was the mother of my third great grandfather Joseph Alexander Dunn. I also want to find out who Thomas Dunn's parents were.
