I noticed in old message echanges about James Drew that there were Cummings in the family tree, and I am interested in the Cummings who were from Dutchess County, NY in the 1790's and went to Ontario near Niagara Falls in about 1803, led by Silas Sutherland and Sarah (Sallie) Cummings who married in Dutchess County and moved to Ontario. My ggfather William Major Cummings was Sallie's younger brother (perhaps from a second marriage) and his older brothers William and Major were in Canada also, perhaps drawn by an Ingersoll land offer. This group returned to the US, starting in 1820, going via Ohio, and New York to Indiana, and Michigan. Other surnames besides Sutherland I think might have been connected are Olmstead, Hartsough, and Bean.
I'd appreciate any info you have on Cummings in Ontario (or Comins, Cummins as the CT and Dutchess Co. NY family seemed to use all versions.)
