Steve: sorry I haven't checked the DiMeglio board for a long long time! My grand aunt Carmela Trani married Stanislao Monti in NYC in 1913. Both originally came from Ischia. I know for sure that the Monti family originated in Casamicciola. Whereabouts on 57th Street did your grandparents live? My Trani, Monti family lived on Amsterdam Avenue.
My grand uncle Stanislao (aka Solon) Monti's mother and 2 sisters and one brother also emigrated to NYC in the early 1900's. His mother's name was Maria Concetta Mazzella. His sister's names were Natalin and Grazia (aka Mottazelle). Brother's name wasFillipo, but known as Louis for some reason.
As for the DiMeglio's: my great grandfather's brother (Giovanni Giuseppe Trani) married Maria Teresa DiMeglio and emigrated to NYC from Ischia about 1899. I believe the Trani family were from Campagnano in Ischia, in the hills above Ischia Ponte. My grandmother was baptized in the cathedral in Ischia Ponte.
