I'm also researching DeSilva/DaSilva for my own family history, and I'm wondering if John DeSilva could be related to my great great grandfather Louis DeSilva as they immigrated about the same time to the same location.

At any rate, I did a search for John DeSilva baptism records in Portugal. There was no DeSilva, but I did find Joao DaSilva. There were 3 possible:
