John Densmore, Door's Drummer

As you can see, this posted possible "family account" has been PRIVATIZED. All of this is not substantiated, but it is a general idea of a path Densmore family history might have taken. John Densmore played drums with the rock group Doors. His skill as a musician had in part provided a sort of an epic soundtrack for the later 1960's for many people, especially rock fans and also the Woodstock Generation.

John xxxx Densmore is the son of Ray X Densmore and Margaret xxxxxxx. His mother was born in xxxxxxx, xxxxx and his father was born in ME. (information from autobiography "Rider's On the Storm," by John Densmore).

There is also information about Dinsmore/Densmore family compiled by family research Poster Xxxxx who worked on the surname Dinsmore a version of Densmore. He had what was purported to be a genealogical copy of an xxxx vital record.

John's parents married xxxxxxxxxx in Los Angeles California. His mother's parents, Californians, were xxxxxxx xxxxx and E. xxxxxxx. John was born xxxxxxxxx in Los Angeles County, probably xxxxxxx (ROTS). His father was an architect who attended The University of Southern California. (ROTS). His father Ray moved to West Los Angeles around 1934 and was living in West Los Angeles by the time he married and John Densmore was born. (ROTS). According to John he grew up in West Los Angeles until they were forced out of their home by the construction of the San Diego Freeway. (ROTS).

The Dinsmore family researcher xxxx has done one of his family surnames background with sources, and though that doesn't always make anyone correct, he has done some good work.

According to the Dinsmore family file, John Densmore's grandfather was Frank Chester Densmore, who was born on April 18, 1880 in Keenebunk, York County, Maine and died June 24, 1954 in the City of Los Angeles. Researcher xxxx for Dinsmore says that he used a vital record copy for that info. (Dinsmore family poster also makes use of scanned Federal Census pages, by the way.) John's Grandfather Frank was married possibly three times, to Eva (unknown), Etta xxxx and Laura (Unknown).

According to John Densmore, his father, Ray, was born in Maine, (Riders On the Storm). John's paternal grandfather having been born in Maine as well, fits with that. Also fitting is Los Angeles, where father Ray Densmore "moved to" from Maine according to ROTS. According to Dinsmore family historian, said to be using a state marriage record of a sort for the couple, mentioned above, the Densmores also married in Los Angeles. John said that "his" father moved to Los Angeles but it is probably also true that his father moved to L.A. with John's grandfather Frank who was born in Keenebunk, Maine.

According to the Dinsmore research person, Frank Chester Densmore was the son of Ellis F. Densmore and Emma Williams. Ellis was born August 12, 1854 in Orange, VT and died on October 29, 1913 in Haverhill, Essex, MA.

Also, according to the same guy Ellis was the son of Denison Densmore/Dinsmore and Sarah Ann Peake. Denison was born October 10, 1822 in Orange, Vermont and died November 27, 1905 in the City of Los Angeles in Los Angeles County, California. His body was sent home to Vermont to be buried.

The Dinsmore family poster also says also that Denison was the son of Eli Densmore (Dinsmore) and Sarah Bohannan. According to him, Eli was born December 12, 1791 in Chelsea, Orange, Vermont. He died 1846 in Orange. Eli Densmore (according to posts) was in turn the son of an Abel Dinsmore and Rachel Fisk.

With these "our" Dinsmore family historian used Federal Census pages and probably city directories.
