Hey Dawn,
Polly's birth name was Mary, but she went by the name Polly. Her first husband was David M. Lucas, married in Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana. on Nov. 7, 1861. They had one child, Martha Lucas. The dates of her two marriages after that and the birth dates of her children are unclear. Who did she marry first, Wm. Anderson Blackwell or Ambrose Hanson. Some claim William Anderson Blackwell may have been married first to a Clarissa unknown and they had a son named Green Blackwell, born in 1875. But this is not a sure thing, and again the date 1875 complicates things. Your research indicates that Polly's marriage to Wm. Anderson Blackwell produced a daughter, Mary J. Blackwell in 1860 and a son, William Blackwell in 1863, and they may have had two other children, but I don't know. The 1870 U.S. census for Indiana shows Polly (Mary J., age 27 y.o. = b. 1843) married to Ambrose Hanson (age 35 y.o. = b. 1835), with three children: Nancy Adeline Hanson (5 y.o. = b. 1865), Phoeba R. Hanson (2 y.o. = b. 1868), and Peter Hanson (11 mos = b. 1870 or 1871). Polly and Ambrose were married Aug. 9, 1864, and it has been said that they had four children - so who is the other one? It also has been said that Polly had a total of nine children. If she had one with David Lucas, four with Wm. Anderson Blackwell, and four with Ambrose Hanson, that would account for nine. I am sorry I am not more of a help, and I apologize if i have made things more difficult. If I learn more, and can clear some things up in the future, I will let you know. As far as my research goes, I am once again in contact with city officials in Metz and hope to hear back from them soon. I recently got in contact with city officials in Rohrenfurth, Germany and got the records of Johann Daniel Hilgenberg (Hillenberg). That cleared up a lot of unanswered questions. If I can do the same with Jacob Deckard, I will be ready to publish my book. I hope all goes well with your research and proposed book.
