I think that we are talking about the same people. Sophronia Rolf Darling (my great, great grandmother) would have been Sophronia Jane's mother. She was indeed born in Vermont. I have two pictures of Sophronia Rolf Darling. One taken in about 1860 and the other would have been taken at the end of her life when she was a very old lady. As far as the Native American questions, I have not found anything specific but they moved from East Otto, NY to Fayette Co. Iowa and they were definitely living in the proximity of Native American populations in both situations From what I have been able to retrieve, this branch of the Darlings have a very interesting history.
