The father of James Samuel Dabbs born, 1840, is James H Dabbs and Celia Caroline Williams...my GGGrandfather. We finally found the "missing" 1850 US census record. The name was transcribed incorrectly as 'Dates'. All other names check out with numerous other records and family histories. Shortly after the 1850 census, the wife of James H must have died. He remarried within the year in the same County (Chambers, AL) and then purchased land in Tallapoosa Co., AL. Children from first marriage and children with Caroline are on the 1855 Alabama Census andthe 1860 US Census. And the witness to James Samuel Dabbs marriage was his sister's husband...another verification.
Some other interesting information: James Samuel Dabbs, his brother Asa Dabbs, brother George M Dabbs and their father James H Dabbs all served in the Civil War. George M never made it home and there is no record of any burial.
