I'm relatively new to genealogical research and I've got a lot to learn, but so far one of the biggest things I've learned is how helpful other family tree searchers out there can be as we climb our respective trees and study the branches, so to speak.
Right now I'm trying to learn as much as I can about my Cunningham line. From what I've learned from church records in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, my great-grandfather John Cunningham was born Aug. 19. 1863 in County Westmeath, Ireland, married a Catherine Nolan there (unknown year), and with their infant son Thomas came to the U.S. sometime prior to 1889, judging by the birth of their second child in Honesdale in that year. The church records note that great-grandfather John's father was named Thomas and remained in Ireland. What I'd like to do is try to narrow down what year he emigrated to this country so I can check out ellisisland.org. I'd also love to find out what I can on where he could have lived in Westmeath, and if any relatives might still be there or in that general vicinity. Any ideas out there on how I might go about these things? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
