Surnames: Cumbo, Heinigg
Pls do not make the mistake as Paul Heinigg by explaining origins of surnames with 'probably', and 'could have beens.' Cumbos migrated from the Charleston area to N.C.-There were Cumbo Indians from the S.C. area-Cumbos are from Malta- and France. They came from many places and many migrated to N.C. Do not decide that they had to be a mixed race belonging to African from the 1600's. Mr. Heinigg has explained all surnames in Robeson County (Lumbees) as descending from an African slave from Va. in the 1600's. He missed out on several of the prominent names. Apparently he could not locate an African slave to tie his ' probably' or ' may have been' to.
