Like your family, my family also originated from county clare. I was there in 86 and made inquiries. There was once a place called "Bally O'Clohessy", pronounced "O-clock-a-say"out of a little town called "Innes". I found the ruins of a church and a very time ravaged grave stone bearing the family name. I was guided to a property where the town was once located and was offeered hospitality by the residents. They had all the modern conveniences, cars TV's etc, but they still had earth floors with a few rugs??
My great grandfather's family came to Western Australia from Glenelg in South Australia, and his grandfather came from county Clare, I guess around the early part of the 18th century.
My wife Rachael is from California, her family forebears, who were the Lewis's came from Donegal, just a few miles down the road from County Clare. Its interesting how common some of our roots are!
Some Background,
I'm 53, married, have 3 children, 2 boys a nd a girl from my secomd marriage, and 3 girls from my first marriage, the eldest who lives in the states(NY).
Thanks for the reply,
John Clohessy
