I have a Joshua Clayton (1677 - 1761) married to Sarah Needham (1680 - 1760.)

People have records relating to Joshua Clayton that list a father who had no son named Joshua. There was a son Joseph born the same year. I know sometimes people go then and now by middle names, nick names etc., but is this the same person?

Parents of Joshua Clayton I have James Clayton (Senior) b 1632, and Jane maiden name unknown. Backward from James Senior I have his father Thomas born 1600.

I don't know if Joshua Clayton is related to the Quakers who came over on the "Welcome" or not and I don't want any misinformation on my tree.

It's frustrating sometimes that such conflicting hints are on this site without a way (except the boards) to decipher it. Thank you for any help.
