Dori, I was in touch with you a couple of years ago, with regard to my ggmother Caroline (Brown) Cummings, married to William Major Cummings in Carrollton IL in 1853. She shows up there by herself in the 1850 census, while he was still with his father, David Cummings, and mother Martha (Sutherland) Cummings in Branch County MI. His older sister Susannah (Cummings) Hartsough, wife of David Bean Hartsough, is also in Carrollton in 1850. The Cummings and the Hartsoughs went to look for gold in 1853, same year William and Caroline were married. Most of this is new info to me.
