Hello Samantha......

I have an ancestor named Timothy Brown; born April 1762 in New Jersey and died January 3, 1852, in Washington County, Iowa.

My info says that in April 1780, he enlisted as a private in Richard Cox's 3rd company, New Jersey, re-enlisted in Alexander Mitchell's 1st company, New Jersey and served under Washington at Monmouth Springs Field, and Yorktown. He witnessed the surrender of Cornwallis in 1781. And was discharged June 5th, 1783.

He moved to Iowa and at the time of his death, his only heir was a daughter Nancy; who was married to E.A.J. Oliver.

Do you think we have the same Timothy Brown??? If so, have you found anymore info on him?

I don't know who his wife was, or much more about him, except that he was first buried in a "Pioneer Cemetery", known as Todd Cemetery, in Franklin township, about one mile S.E. of Grace Hill, Washington County, Iowa in 1852, and his body was moved to the "Soldier's Circle", in Elm Grove Cemtery, Washing, Iowa, in 1903, where there was a monument erected on the gravesite, by donations.

If you would like, just e-mail me directly at joschool@galesburg.net

Thanks for your time.......Joan
