I believe I am a descendant through their son Eli Perkins who married Patience Woods.

I have been hoping to find more information about a family listing posted on the Perkins Research site. Mary, I believe that you posted this information at that site so would love to learn more and how the connections were made (the linked email address did not work). Two of my g,g,g, grandmothers are listed here in the family group (Wealthea Perkins Marble and Rena Perkins Hugaboon).

Elijah Perkins b.1774. (Son of Joel & Mehitable (Brooks) Perkins). His wife PATIENCE (WOOD). They were listed on the 1820 New York Census at Luzerne, Warren Co., NY.

Regarding the medical issues, I had heard from my father that the Perkins had leg problems.
