Kathleen,
Lyman Bradway b. 27 Aug 1811, probably in Lewis Co. NY (son of William and Fannie [Parker] Bradway) d. Wisc. 11 Feb 1883 age 71-5-14, probably in WI, (but place not shown). He m. Sallie M. NORTON (as recorded in the Family Bible, but probably Sarah) on 15 Jul 1836. She was b.10 Mar 1816 and died 17 Jan 1894, age 77-10-7 (also probably in WI but , again, not shown). A descendant says she was the daughter of Joseph Norton, but I have no confirmation on that.
Fanny Minerva was the oldest of 10 children of Lyman and Sallie, all but one of whom married and most, if not all, of whom left descendants. Frederick Eugene, the 7th child, b.1852 d. 1853 is the one who died young. This entire family moved to Wisconsin.
I have the original family BIble in my possession, having purchased it many years ago from someone who had no idea why she had it! (Because of a couple of later entries, it MAY have come down through the family of Hiram Adelmer Bradway.)
It shows Fanny Minerva b. 30 Apr 1837; Myron Duane b. 29 Aug 1838, Hiram Adelmer b. 3 Apr 1842, Martha Ann b. 17 Oct 1843, Elizabeth Caroline b. 13 Oct 1845, William Joseph b. 14 Aug 1850, Frederick Eugene b. 10 Aug 1852, Ida Isabel b. 12 Mar 1854, Franklin Burdette b. 21 Oct 1856 and Julia Adelaide b. 26 Feb 1859.
There is no Elijah shown as a child of Lyman, so that is NOT the direct connection. Why the Rensselaer Co. NY Humphrey who had a son Elijah who named a son named Lyman is anyone's guess.
We have what we feel is a full list of children for William Bradway (b. 11 Apr 1777 in MA, d. 6 Dec 1853, Copenhagen NY) and Fannie Parker (b. 24 Apr 1783 Mansfield CT, dau. of Phineas Parker and Lois Southworth). These are: Hiram b. 15 Feb 1806, Orrin P. b. 4 Jun 1809, Lyman (as above), William "Jr." b. 29 Nov 1814, Charity b. 11 Dec 1817 - d. 1819, Asahel b. 25 Oct 1820 - d. 1822 and Lois A. b. 3 Sep 1824 d. 1844, shortly after her marriage, possibly to a John Fryer. All, except Lyman, seem to have stayed in the Lewis Co. NY area. Humphrey does NOT seem to fit into this group at all, although he is certainly contemporary with William Bradway's children and there might be room for one more between William Jr. and Charity.
Humphrey, b. ca. May 1815, however, indicated in the 1855 NY State Census that he was b. in Rensselaer Co. and the family of William Bradway never lived there. They were in Lewis Co. in that time period (and later). Possibly Humphrey or someone gave incorrect information in the State Census. His death cert. only says he was b. in "America" and his parents names were left blank on the D/C. HOwever, under "how long a resident" shows his entire life (81 yrs. 10 mos.).
We could not find any Brdaways or Broadways in Rensselaer Co. in 1810or 20. In 1830, we found a Thomas Bradway who had only 1 male child, he was under 5 and too young to have been Humphrey. Stephen Van Rensselaer Bradway (the name appears as BroadHEAD) is also found in 1830, but he only had a male in the 5-10 age group, again too young to have been Humphrey.
It is quite obvious that all the NY Bradways and Broadways WERE related - siblings, 1st and 2nd cousins, nieces and nephews, but the exact relationships between the oldest ones who appear in NY State (ca. 1810+ and with one exception, descendants of Richard [3] or Jeremiah [3]) has NOT been discovered, despite some 30+ years of searching in every State and County where the name has been found.
