Per Mike Boyd, Clan Historian, Chair of the Historical Committee for House of Boyd's request, I am posting his message written to the Boyd list in reply to your message on the Boyd board which "gatewayed" to the list. You can reach Mike directly via his Society address of historian@clanboyd.org

I have four articles on William's origins in Family Chapter 14/723.

It says that they came form Belmont County, Ohio to the oil fields in Tulsa,
Oklahoma in 1902. But earlier generations had come form Cecil County,
Maryland.

If someone with access to Ancestry Gateway can give you this message, so you
can contact me privately I can send the details to you.

PS
It will depend on how you define "cousin"? There are some 28 generations of
the Boyd, so that means that we are all within 26 degrees of cousinship -
with many of us much closer than that. So he is partly right, but with your
family coming Rutherford,County, Tenn, it is "unlikely" that you have a
direct relationship - unless your family go back to Cecil County, Maryland.
With one son going South and another going to Ohio.
