I am not from this line. However, we know from his second marriage that the parents of William b. 1799 were John and Elizabeth Blanton. Her surname is unproven. They moved to MO and John (remarried) is in the 1850 census. It is very unlikely that he had a middle name, as they were not common until the 1800s.

He was certainly not the son of William Blanton of Carolyn County VA, who had a son named John that we can easily trace. The males of this family, whom we call the Southwest Virginia Blantons, are readily identified with DNA testing, since they differ on a very slow marker. Based on William's associates, it is likely he, or an unknown father, immigrated from Wales.
