My Grandfather Edward Charles Bates worked as a lawyer, judge (of some kind), traveled a lot in business, shown on a 1930 census as a promoter of corporations. He lived in Tampa, Florida in the year 1913 I know as my mother was born there. He lived in Texas around around 1912 in Coryell Texas when he married my grandmother Laura Irene Evans. He lived in Greensboro, North Carolina when his son Edward Bates was born in 1920. He was wealthy up until the last year he lived in Florida where he lost his fortune on a bad real estate "scheme". (Perhaps unscrupulous). He died in Montgomery, Alabama in 1930. I am searching for any information on him. I do not know his parents and I have searched and searched with an Ancestry.com subscription. Thanks, Jerrie Jackson McIngvale
