James, son of John is my Great Grandfather. I did have a copy of his Civil War pension file, but loaned it to a cousin several years ago and has never been returned.

The only strange thing in the file, as I remember, was correspondence relating to whether he and Elizabeth were still married or not. He had written to confirm and stated the only possible confusion could be when she lived at another farm they owned.

When I related this at a family reunion, all were surprised. They knew nothing of another farm, or when she might have been living there. Thise who knew James said he could be a real SOB and she probably just took a leave of absence!

I was born many years after James died, but do remember his wife.

Sure wish I could find the cousin and get the file back!
