I was looking at the Akerman messagw board and saw your message.
I have had a look on http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ for you and found your grandparents marriage in 1945. You can use the reference to order a copy of his marriage certificate from the GRO (about £10). This will give you his fathers name and occupation. Free BMD shows two further marriages for Kenneth Akermans, both in 1957. One of these may be his second marriage. It also gives details of two births (1920 and 1924) as well as mothers maiden names. One of these could be him. Hope this helps you to make a start.
