Hello,

I have been trying to research the Benevento's for awhile now, and have not been able to find much.

This is the story that somebody was able to help me find that I have as the base of my research:

"I took the liberty of searching the Ellis Island web site and found a Maria Cella, age 27, traveling with her daughter Geneveffa Benevento, age 4, on the S.S. Hamburg which left Naples on 7 Oct 1913 and arrived at the Port of NY on 21 Oct 1913. They were going to join Maria's husband Nicola' Benevento in Brooklyn, NY. In 1913, the manifests showed the Place of Birth. In this case it was Montemarano, which is in the province of Avellino in the Campania Region. See if this matches with what your grandmother tells you. If so, then you could research further by reading the microfilmed records at the Mormon Family History Center, which you would rent and read at their facility. They have 6 microfilms for the town of Montemarano which cover the civil registration records (birth, marriages, deaths) for the period: 1809 - 1899. Slowly records are appearing on-line, but at a quick look, I did not find Benevento records on-line yet. www.familysearch.org"
