I would love to have everyone's opinion here!
I have relatives in Petrulo still. My dad was there in the late 90's, and his father's last living brother was still alive at that time. I am sure by now he has passed away, but there were other cousins, etc. there at the time. My dad cannot really remember names, and no one at the time spoke English.
However, using the Italian White Pages I have narrowed down the many Martino surnames to under 20 households. I think having my dad look at the street names may jog his memory.
Anyway, what I would like to do is to send out a few letters, and try to find out where my dads cousins are. It would be nice for him to have a little more information on his grandparents.
Question 1: Would it be appropriate for me to send letters to the Martino's in Petrullo?
Question 2: Is it likely that none of them would be able to read or write English? When I think of how fluent in other languages our young folks are today, I assume that it would be the same there, but I could be wrong!
Question 3: I am willing to find someone to help me to write a letter in Italian, and to translate for me, anyone have any ideas where to look for one?
Any tips, ideas, thoughts on this are appreciated!
