Hi,
I have little connection tot eh Sassanelli family but I'll tell you what I know.
I have 2 Sassanelli brothers from Carbonara di Bari, Italy who married two Raimondi sisters from Triggiano, both around 1905-1910.
I checked the Social Security death index and found a Matthew Sassanelli, Jan 10 1922 - Mar 15 1990, social security number issued in Michigan. He would be the right age to be your husband's father. I found a Mike Sasanelli born Aug 29 1889 died Jul 1973 , SS# issued in Michigan but last residence Florida.
Mike is the right age to be a sibling of the two Sasanelli brothers in my tree. He is also the right age to be a 17 year old in the Ellis Island manifests coming to the US from Carbonara in 1906. He is coming to Chicago to visit his brother Saverio, which is the Saverio from my file!!
Your Mike is the son of Donato Sassanelli and Filomena Morisco. I need to check into this family because there is a family who married in Triggiano Saverio Sassanelli (born Bari 1816) and Marianna De Francesco in 1849 (born 1826 Triggiano). I know I am connected on the de Francesco line. This marriage may be the parents of Donato who is the father of this group.
I'm glad you wrote me...a little effort at the library early next week will hopefully connect my Sassanellis, find the Michele birth record in 1889, and connect Donato to old Saverio.
If this works out, I can't help you much on the Sassanelli line but I can take you back on the De Francesco line and it's maternal connections to the late 1600s perhaps.
My new e-mail is @comcast.net so please contact me there. Thanks
Dan
