We are interested in the Petri name. A ggg-grandfather, Christian Petri, came to the States in 1873. The spelling was later changed to Petre. U.S. Census records say he was Bavarian but there was also talk that the family originated in Alsace. Do you have any more information on the Petri name in the region; or towns/villages where it was common?

Christian's parents were Phillip (Philipp?) Petri and Elizabeth Gentes.
