Bo,

I am familiar with the brith, marriage, and death records and have been using them for about two years now. Reading the old Swedish handwriting can be somewhat challanging, but worth the effort! And since your reply I found out that I can order the Mantal microfilms...however a little pricy. I will do this so I can verify the men/women being taxed against the families I'm looking into.

I dove into the Visnum birth records (AD Visnum C:1 and C:2) looking for anyone having parents with the last name Ingwalsson. Yes, with the name change every generation we can only know the first name of the father. But, I have to start somewhere! I'm only in the year range between 1707 and 1718 so far (long tough reading). I found 9 families where the father's last name was Ingwalsson and noted their children. I noticed the witnesses indicated some of the families were related to each other which was encouraging. I will be drawing lines connecting the witness's to the children to establish potential brothers. What I found was:

SKOGEN:
Bior Ingwalsson (mar: 1706)
Margreta Olsdotter
Ch: 1710 Maria, 1711 Catharina, 1714 Ingward, 1717 Annika.

GISSLEGARD:
Erick Ingwalsson (mar: 1710)
Britta Andersdotter
Ch: 1711 Karin, 1713 Maria, 1716 Erick, 1717 Maria, 1718 Ellika.

DAMON:
Jon Ingvarsson (Mar 1713)
Susanna Ersdotter
Ch: 1714 Maria, 1717 Cathrina.

DAMON:
Anders Ingvarsson
Elin Persdotter
Ch: 1713 Anika, 1717 Erick.

MASEN (MOSSEN):
Anders Ingwalsson
Maria Larsdotter
Ch: 1709 Kirstin, 1712 Ingevar, 1715 Cathrina, 1718 Lars.

UDDERUD:
Mans Ingwaldsson
Malin Petersdotter
Ch: 1708 Anders.

BACKA:
Carl Ingwalsson
Elin Ersdotter
Ch: 1707 Ingvar, 1710 Margita, 1712 Brita(?), 1713 Ingvar, 1717 Maria.

BACKA:
Mans Ingwalsson
Elin Olsdotter
Ch: 1709 Kirstin, 1711 (?).

LINDASEN:
I find no birth records for anyone with Pafwel Ingwalsson as the father!
This is my line who moved to Lindasen between 1707 and 1710. (I found a birth entry in 1707 with father Gunnar Larsson, which leads me to believe that my Pafwel was not at Lindasen then). Now the big question - are there records that say where the family came from when they moved to another farm, similar to the Household Examination Records sometimes mentioned on the later entries? I see in the birth records (C:1 and C:2) there is a "Transport" section with entries. They are very hard to read. Is this the place to look? Or is this something different?

Finally, there were no witnesses in the above birth entries that listed Pafwel Ingwalsson as a witness! Arghh. So, I can't determine any family connections, making it more frustrating. And looking at the adjoining parishes next to Visnum - Rudskoga, Nysund, Finnerodja, and Amneharad, I'm not seeing any birth records of Pafwel's children (1700 Sven, Catharina, and Kristi).

I did find an entry for Kristi Pafwelsson from Linasen who married Anders Nilsson from ?? on 12 Mar 1721. This is new for me!

I'll take any suggestions at this point, no matter how far off they may sound.

Best regards,

Eric Johnson
