Trying to locate a death record for John SKILTON/SKELTON (b1830 SRY ENG). Emigrated to NZL with family 1858. Had a farm at Springston, Lincoln. Wife, Mary Ann died 1869 & is bd Barbadoes St, Cemetery, Chch.

Last trace I have of John is 1875-1876 Electoral Roll & 1878-1879 Wises NZ Post Office Directory both of which record him as still being in Springston.

I've records, from the archives, of his youngest children, 14 yr old twins, Eleanor & Elizabeth being admitted to the Burnham Industrial School on 15 Nov 1882. However a newspaper report from Nov 1882 states that, their terms had expired and they were recommitted in Nov 1882 on application of the master, so their original admission would have been before 1882. Their admission to the school suggest that John was either dead or unable to care for them.

There is a record on a death for John SKILTON on NZ BMD's in 1881 but this is not my John SKILTON.

I have checked with Barbadoes St, Cemetery & Selwyn District Council but neither have any record of a burial for John SKILTON / SKELTON. Nor is there any record of him in the Chch City Library indexes or the on-line burial records for Chch.

If anyone has any knowledge of this family or can suggest where else to look, your advice would be appreciated.
