Although I don’t have any knowledge of your mother, maybe the following will be of some help in your search.

There are a couple of web sites for people trying to trace parents and adopted children – these might be worth looking at and submitting your query.

You are lucky enough to have several good pieces of information about your mother – her name, her age in 1948 (which gives her an approximate birth year of 1930), and the fact that she came from Quirindi. So with a bit more luck, you may be able to discover whether she married later which should make your search a lot easier if you have her married name. Following is a list of all women by the name of Doreen Jackson who married in NSW between 1948 and 1957 which is when the marriage indexes stop. New South Wales marriage certificates record the birthplace of both parties but if she wasn’t actually born in Quirindi and only moved there later, it might be impossible to identify her from these records.

If you do decide to try tracing her this way you will find it a lot cheaper to use a transcription agent rather than apply for certificates through the NSW Birth Marriages and Death Registry.
