Surnames: Sherar
Looking back at this orginal post of mine I see a common mistake of thinking I had all the basic info on my ancestor correct, I was wrong, what follows is a more accurate version of this 1999 version.
My ancestory George Sherar came to Australia 1832 on the “Betsy” which was made in Leith, his wife was Eliza Barrett, a convict, they had 2 children who survived childhood to carry on the family, they were Jane & George John Sherar. Jane married William Paddey and George John to Mary J Brown.
Jane & William had a number of children, they children changed their surname to Padey, one daughter Marian married Joseph Samuel Walker, they had a number of children, one being Leslie Gordon my Grandfather.
George Sherar was the first Bagpipe maker in Australia and was so up to his death in 1888. 2 of his Bagpipes remain in the Powerhouse Museum, they being made in 1840&1850. Anyone connected to these names, please contact the relevant email address
