1880 Census lists Lane as stepson to my great-great grandfather, Amos Eldridge (Eldred, b. 1844) at home in Canandaigua with wife Sarah (b. 1838) and their daughters Clara and Flora. I have a funeral keepsake that suggests Sarah's family name was Root and the 1870 Census supports this; it shows a Willie Lane living with grandparents Chauncey (b. 1815) and Nancy Root (b. 1820) in Canandaigua. Strangely, Sarah is absent from this household.

1880 Census indicates William was born in Wisconsin. According to a member's tree, his father might have been Daniel B. Lane (b. 1829 in either Milwaukee or NY)

Does anyone have information on Lane's parentage, relating specifically to Sarah and Amos Eldred?
