General questions on Rev. Ilmonens' book: Could you give us the title and publishing data; also what range of years he covered? Wondering how many of the Finnish people in this book changed their names to French or French Canadian, rough percentage? How many were changed to names of other ethnic backgrounds?
Also, any ideas as to why a person would change from [what to us would seem] an easier to spell name, to one more likely [again, maybe just to me] to be mispronounced and mispelled?
I realize a lot of this is speculation, but maybe somebody knows, even today, why a particular new name was chosen....
