A story by Byron Morris in the "Out of the Past" column of the Wayne County News on July 7,1976,presents some interesting information.
On May 22, 1894 two grandsons of Sarah Mount-Wilson, Hiram and Jackson Wilson, filed a petition in the Circuit Court of Wayne County,West Virginia, asking the Cherokee National Council for citizenship, which they claimed by Cherokee Indian blood.
The petition stated in part; " I Hiram Wilson, do and always have claimed that I was, and am, a Cherokee Indian by blood, and I have never denied it at anytime and not that I know anything about this, only that I have been taught by my parents who raised me from childhood. My grandmother's name was Sarah Mounts and her Indian relation is old John Mounts and Woodal and Rain Crow." Jackson Wilson a twin brother of Hiram Wilson filed a like petition.
