Surnames: Turpin Russell Love
Much time has passed since 2008. Here are a few corrections: Martin's wife's name was not Mary Elizabeth Russell. It was Elizabeth Russell. Martin later had a son he named Martin, and that Martin (his son) married a Mary.

We have also be able to piece together a few clues since 2008 as to how our Martin entered Tennessee. It appears that he may not have come directly from Gap Valley. Evidence seems to support the idea that he was born the son of a Martin and Agnes Turpin in Gap Valley. I believe that Agnes died shortly after giving birth, and the baby named Martin passed into the care of someone who could nurse him. He eventually ended up in Montgomery County, Virginia where the Love family took him. When the Love family left Virginia and moved to Knox County (later they moved to Middle Tennessee), they took young Martin with them. It was then in Knox County that Martin met Elizabeth Russell who had come to the area with her father, Andrew Russell, to visit with her brother who had moved to the area much earlier. While there, Andrew died, and Elizabeth remained in the area. In 1805 Martin Turpin and Elizabeth Russell married.

That's my take on how it all happened. Anybody out there have any thoughts on my theories?
