Rev. A. C. Hicks Of Cinco, 90, Dies
Putnam County Native Had Retired Because of ill health in 1931
Rev. A. Callis Hicks, 90-year old Methodist minister of Cinco, died
yesterday morning in a Charleston hospital after an illness of several years. Mr. Hicks; a native of Putnam county and minister, for 35 years, had resided at Cinco the past 26 years. His last pastorship was the Liberty M. E. church from which he retired in 1931 because of failing health. Services will be held at 2:30 p. m. tomorrow at Liberty church with Rev. J. C. Baynum officiating. Burial will follow in Crowder cemetery with the Owen and Barth mortuary in charge.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Almeda Hicks; four daughters, Mrs. Stella Grant of Alkol, Mrs. Dimmie Williams of Spring Hill, Mrs. Clara Bostic of Coal Fork and Mrs. Zera Crowder of Cinco; four sons, V. S Charles, Luther and Hensley Hicks all of Cinco.

Mrs. Malinda Crowder — Mrs. Crowder. 85. died Friday night at her Cinco home after a long illness. She had been a member of the Methodist church there nearly 70 years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Sunday at the Methodist church. Rov. Earl G. Hissom will
officiate and burial will follow in the family cemetery, with the
Bartlett and Wynns mortuary of Belle in charge. Grandsons will act as pallbearers and grandaughters will be flower girls.
Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Louella Rooper of Teays, Mrs. Willie Morgan of Charleston, Mrs. Lila Shiltz of Malden, and Mrs. V S Hicks, Mrs. Thena Johnson and Mrs. W M Brown of Cinco a son, Virgil Crowder of Cinco, two brothers, Sam Black of Putnam County and M V Black of Huntington 37 grandchildren and 68 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mamie Garten — Funeral services will be conducted Friday
afternoon for Mrs. Mamie Garten, 65-year-old resident of Putney, who
died Wednesday at her home following an illness of six weeks.
The body has been removed to the Bartlett and Wynns mortuary at
Belle. Mrs. Garten was a member of the Methodist church.
Surviving are her husband, T. J. Garten; two sons, R. E. and Alvin
Garten of Putney; six daughters, Mrs. Ola Boggess of Laing; Mrs.
Nora Knopp and Mrs. Goldie Cantrell of Coal Fork; Miss Marie Garten
and Mrs. Ruby Holstein. of Putney, and Mrs. Gladys Stephens, of
Beckley; a sister, Mrs. Ella Debolt of Charleston; two brothers, Ira
Brown of Quick; and Chester Brown of Putney; 24 grandchildren
and 12 great-grandchildren.

Samuel Taylor, 83, Dies in Clendenin
Samuel Taylor, 83, died Monday night at the home of a step-daughter,
Mrs. Etta Smith of Clendenin leaving 120 direct descendants.
Service will be at 2 p. m. tomorrow in the Garten cemetery. Rev
U. G, Wolfe will officiate. The body is at the Fidler and Frame mortuary at Belle and will be taken to the home of a daughter, Mrs
Pearl Rhoades of Coal Fork at 5 p. m. today. Also surviving are four other daughters, Mrs. Delcie Garten of Blount and Mrs. Stella George
Mrs. Avie O'Dell and Mrs. Edna Keffer, all of Coal Fork; three sons
A. M. of Quick, L. L. of. Ward and L. W. of Garrison; two brothers
Doan of Coco and William of Elkview; five sisters, Mrs. Roxie Jennings. Elkview, Mrs. Mamie Sharp Charleston, Mrs. Tina Humphreys
Walnut Grove, Mrs. Hettie Samples Riley's Branch, and Mrs. Evie Carte
of Charleston; 38 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.

Putney Resident Dies Leaving 111 Descendants
Mrs. Martha Ann Taylor, 83 of Putney, died at 10:55 a.m. yesterday at her home, leaving 111 direct descendants.
There are three sons, five daughters, 53 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The surviving children are Mrs. Stella George ard Mrs. Delsie Garten
of Putney, Mrs,Avie O'dell and Mrs. Pearl Rhodes, Coal Fork, Mrs.
Edna Keffer, Charleston, Lawrence Taylor of Ward, Monsford of Quick
and Leon of Orgas. Also surviving is a half-sister, Mrs. Eddie Smith
of Clendenin.
The body is at the Fidler and Frame mortuary at Belle.
