Funeral Services to Be Held on Woman's 98th Birthday
Mrs. Mary E. Reed, died yesterday at the bome of her daughter, Mrs.
Samantha Means of Laidley Street. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 8, which is her birthday. She was tbe motber of nine children, The three who survive her are, Mrs, Lara Carter of Young street, Mrs. Lowie Earlie of Lee Street, and Mrs. Means of Laldley street. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Before her marriage, she was Mary Cooper, daughter of Lewis Cooper. She was born in Iowa. When three years of age, she was brought by her father to West Virginia. He settled on Cooper's
Creek, giving the place its name. Afterward ahe lived for many years
at the forks of Little Sandy river, she was married to John F. Crowder who died in 19OO. later sbe was married to Levi Reed. After making her home here, she went out of the state only once in 95 years. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist church for 79 years. For many years she lived with her aunt in Slack street on the site of what is now the old depot building.
