Colonel Jones, Veteran of 3 Wars, Passes
Colonel Frederick M. Jones, United State Army, retired, former Executive Officer, Reserve Corps, Seattle, died Tuesday in a Seattle hospital. Colonel Jones, born in England in 1867, came to this country via Canada when 19 years old. He enlisted in the United States Army as a Private on the day of his arrival and worked his way up through the ranks, retiring with the rank of Colonel in 1930. He served as a censor at Santiago, Cuba, during the Spanish American War and was active as an officer during the Philippine campaign. In the First World War he was in command of an American Airdrome near Belleau Wood under General Pershing. In 1923, he was stationed at Fort Lewis as a Lieutenant Colonel and was relieved in 1926 to become head of the Reserve Corps in Seattle with the rank of full Colonel. After his retirement in 1930, he continued to live at 5224 20th Avenue Northeast.
Funeral arrangements are awaiting the arrival of his daughters, Mrs. Ernest Tuttle Owens, wife of Colonel Owens, stationed at Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mrs. A.B. Jones, wife of Colonel Jones, stationed at Palm Springs, California.
Surviving, besides the daughters, are his widow, Eugenie, Seattle and a son, Lieutenant Colonel H.C. Jones, Unites States Army.
