Surnames: Lea, Leigh
Roots Web-World Connect is the best site...
I just put in John Lee, and this came up:
b. 1619 Virginia Beach, d. 8 Jul 1671
Father: William Lea/Leigh b. 1598 in Lea Hall, Cheshire, Engl., migrated to James City Co., Va
Mother: Mary Doakes, b. 1588 Charles City Co., Va...
Perhaps John and James were cousins, or perhaps someone is in error...
There was a prominent Leigh family in King ands Queen Co. - a Capt. William Leigh. Some of his descendants later migrated to York for a while, and then moved to Norfolk. The Leigh family in Norfolk was prominent also...
If you cannot locate the Warwick book, the Library of Congres has it (now 3rd ed, so maybe the index page numbers have been corrected). They film almost everything, and if they have filmed this, they have a lending copy of the film which you could get through Inter-Library Loan... The book was published in Baltimore by the Genealogical Publishing Co., and you could probably buy it...
