Yes, I am very interested in the Kersey line, and in particular, Thomas Kersey. I hope we are talking about the same Thomas Kersey, who, from what I have been able to gather so far, was the husband of Martha Patsy Graves,(1826) and Mary Blankenship (1837). Thomas and Mary had at least 5 children and then he apparently died, as I found her in one of the censuses living in the poor house.
Thomas had a son William Graves, by Martha Graves. William was one of my great great grandfathers. When Thomas was widowed from Martha, he married Mary who had a sister, Francis. William and Francis lived together and made at least 7 children, possibly out of wedlock, but gave the children his name. I have found no marriage registry for them, as of yet. He later married Mary Elizabeth St. John.
( Mary Elizabeth St. John, Perrow, Kersey, Johnson).
Mary Elizabeth and William had a child, Clara Jane Kersey.
William died and Mary Elizabeth married Charles Johnson who already had a son by a previous marriage, named Emmett.
That made Clara Jane and Emmett step sister and brother, but they grew up and married each other.
Here is something I found fascinating. I have somewhere, Maybe from the Charlotte County marriage register? that Martha Graves father, William Graves (born around 1770) was from up around the Williamsburg, Jamestown area. I went in the old church in Colonial Williamsburg, and there was a church pew with a plaque for William Graves!! I got a chill down my arms I was so excited.
