Sorry for the confusion. Joseph Kemp shot Marion Hulsey in Oil Trough, Arkansas, in Independence County on July 31, 1869. Hulsey died Sept. 5, 1869. Kemp fled to Texas, but I do not know the whereabouts. After staying there a few years, he had a shooting scrape and was indicted for assault with intent to kill. He tried to escape to Mexico, but was caught and sentenced to the pen for 7 years, but was pardoned before his term expired. I do not know what name this occurred under, or where this happened. Sometime he changed his name to ELMORE (sorry about the Ardmore it was my mistake, human error), and married. In about 6 weeks after his marriage, he was arrested and brought back to Batesville, Arkansas (County seat of Independence County) about a year before he was hung. He was hung in Evening Shade on October 3, 1879. I cannot find records of the trial.
Does this clear up the confusion, or make matters worse. I do not know the location in Texas where he was arrested or married. I do not know when or where he was when he was indicted in Texas, or where he served his time.
Would appreciate any help in this matter. Thank you.
