Rev. Albert E. Flathmann, Jr., 77, of Hallettsville, died Sept. 2. Funeral services were held on Sept. 5 at St. Peter Lutheran Church with Reverend Herb Beyer officiating. Graveside services were held today at Lutheran Cemetery in Winters, Texas.

Flathmann was born on Dec. 1, 1929 in Marion, Texas to Albert and Mary Zinkhan Flathmann, Sr.

He married Virginia Spill Flathmann on Sept. 2, 1962 in Winters, Texas.

Rev. Flathmann was a member of the Texas German Society, served the American Legion as chaplain and was a volunteer cancer driver. He served as a missionary in Papua New Guinea for 20 years. After returning, he served in many parishes throughout Texas, including Winters, Eagle Lake, Sublime, and Vsetin. After retirement he was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hallettsville and continued to minister in nursing homes in the area.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include wife Virginia; daughters, Mary Ohlman and husband, Vaughn, Elizabeth Carlson and husband, Marcus; sons, David Flathmann and wife Annetta, Larry Flathmann and wife, Kim, and Jonathan Flathmann and wife, Isla; brother Henry Karl Flathmann; sister Pauline Flathmann Wendel; and 14 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Project Friendship Torreon Mexico, Zion Lutheran Church of Sublime, Czech Moravian Brethren Church of Vsetin, St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville, or Donor's Choice.
