I am researching Ike and Porter Stockton in Texas. I know from DNA that they are linked in the distant past to my own Stockton family that lived for two generations in Hopkins County, TX. As I research Samuel Stockton and his supposed wife, Jane Hickey, I see that there is likely some confusion regarding your family and Ike and Porter's parents.
There is a family in Upshur County, TX in the 1850 Census listing Samuel "Stocton" and the rest of the family being delineated by initials only. I am guessing this is actually your family and not that of Ike and Porter.
My confusion is this: Clearly, Jane is living in Hopkins County in 1860 with children, including Ike and Porter. I also did extensive Deed research in Hopkins County and have a copy of Deed where a Samuel Stockton is selling land to Columbus M. Stockton - they are both in Hopkins County and the land is in Upshur County (part of the David Ferguson Survey - and sure enough there was a land grant to David Ferguson in Upshur that corresponds to this)
This Deed puzzles me - do you have any thoughts on this and does this 1850 Census information sound familiar?
I am descended from Josiah Smith Stockton>Josiah Con Stockton and have considerable information on them.
