John Anthony Gardner was arrested for the murder of John P. Patton in 1892 at Dallas and the trial was mentioned in Dallas until 1896. I had found a news article which said Gardner was sentenced to life imprisonment. Then I had found another article which mentioned the trial ending in a hung jury, one against eleven for hanging Gardner. I would think Gardner spent time in Huntsville and was given another trial and released in 1896. He wasn't executed and he didn't spend life in prison because around 1900 he got married, fathered children, and worked as a contractor until his death in 1943 at Dallas.
