I am not sure where to post this. I am still new to all of this. I am looking for the biological father of my maternal grandfather Hargis Cherry (1933-1988). His mother is Louise Cherry, who later remarried and became Louise Fletcher (1917-1984). Louise had Hargis at a young (abt 16/17)age so they both lived with her mother, Maranda Cherry. There is a 1940s census on her that shows the Louise was married and then divorced. It is showing Louise with the last name Cherry, but next to Hargis, you can see that Cherry has been erased and another name wrote in. They have it listed as Carres, but I don't think that is right. He is buried at Collier Cemetery in Weakley County. My grandmother, Bettie (Betty) Foster Cherry (Hargis Cherry's second wife) told me that at his funeral they were asking about his biological father's name (I guess for death certificate). He live most of his life in Tennessee. I know Milan is where my mother, Carol Cherry, was born. He did marry his first wife, Clydia Jones, in Cook County, IL.
